About the Story

Sophie’s Superpower tells the story of Sophie, a young girl who struggles with reading and writing, but after being diagnosed with dyslexia, everything begins to make sense. While the diagnosis brings its own challenges, Sophie learns to embrace dyslexia as a superpower, gaining confidence and resilience with the help and support of those around her.

Arran Smith, Director of SEND Group, shared his thoughts:
*"Back at age nine, when I was diagnosed with dyslexia, a teacher gave me a book that helped me understand my own difference. Even then, and still now, I recognise how crucial it is to foster understanding when explaining dyslexia to our children.

When I read Sophie’s Superpower for the first time, the wave of emotion was overwhelming. It took me back to my own experience with dyslexia, and I could feel exactly how Sophie felt as she realised that her dyslexia wasn’t something to be ashamed of, but a superpower that would help her move forward.

As the director of a publishing company, this emotional connection and deep understanding of the dyslexia community was the true driving force behind our decision to publish this incredible book.”*

A Message from Dawn Crowle, Author

"I have dyslexia, and my daughter Sophie was diagnosed at 7 years old. When we received her diagnosis, I struggled to find a book that would help her understand what was happening. As a dyslexic myself, I thought I could help, but I soon realised it wasn’t that simple. I searched high and low for a suitable book for Sophie, but nothing felt quite right. That’s when I decided to write one. I hope Sophie’s Superpower can help children, parents, and teachers understand dyslexia in a way that is accessible and engaging. The journey has been incredible, and Sophie’s growth has been my inspiration."
